IV Mitrovica art residence. Open call

The 4th Mitrovica Art Residence will take place during March, April and May 2026, and it aims to bring together artists who cultivate contemporary artistic expression in the following fields: fine arts (painting, sculpture, design), visual arts and film, performance (conceptual, musical, dance, theater), music and literature.
Participation in the Mitrovica Art Residence includes staying in North Mitrovica, Kosovo, at a date that will be agreed additionaly, during March, April or May 2026. The organizer will cover the participants’ travel expenses and the costs of staying in Mitrovica. A rich program awaits all participants and it will include discussions, workshops, lectures and meetings with prominent figures from the fields of science, culture and art, along with excursions and visits to cultural and historical sites in the city and the surrounding region. The goal of the Residence is to inspire the selected artists to create notable artwork that will be presented at “Akvarijus” in Mitrovica in May 2026. A special prize is planned for the participant whose work the jury considers to represent an “innovative contribution.”
Anyone interested in participating in Mitrovica Art Residence may apply to the open call until February 25, 2026. Artists may apply individually or in pairs, and must be 18 or older, regardless of formal education.
The application must include:

  • In the email body: full name, city and country, phone number and links to Facebook and Instagram profiles (optional)
  • Attachment 1: Short biography (Word document, maximum 3000 characters)
  • Attachment 2: Artist portfolio (PDF format: a visual presentation of your artistic work – photos, video files, links)

A shortlist of candidates for the Mitrovica Art Residence will be published on the website (www.akvarijus.com) by the end of February, 2026. After this an online interview will be conducted with sellected applicants. Final results will be published on the website of the Private Culture Center „Akvarijus“ (www.akvarijus.com) at the beginning of March 2026. The decision regarding participants selection is made by an international jury.

The Mitrovica Art Residence has an international character, and is implemented as a part of the program section „Art Therapy V“, which is organized by „Akvarijus“ and supported by UNMIK.
In the previous three editions, in addition to local authors, guest artists came from Germany, Iraq, Austria, the Czech Republic, Peru, Russia, Finland, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia.
Artworks created at the Mitrovica Art Residence have so far been exhibited on various occasions in Hamburg and Cottbus (Germany), Lisbon (Portugal), Belgrade (Serbia), Štip and Skopje (North Macedonia), Shkodër and Tirana (Albania).
